Curising, Boat Shows, More Permits

Wednesday August 29, 2007
We’ve had a wonderful week with cool mornings and breezy afternoons. By next week I think I’ll move the office outside once again. I need to apologise for not posing last week. I moved my ‘75 year young’ mother to town and have been at her beck and call ever since. She seems to be finally setting in which leaves me time for the project at hand. The grape vine says we’ve got another new neighbor coming to Port Vandemere with family and boat. It’s going to be so exciting to see everyone’s boats tied snugly to their slips in a year or so!We have our ‘almost’ final marina configuration. I’m not satisfied with a few more details so I’m meeting with the consultant again tomorrow to do corrections. We’ve had our attorney run ragged this week preparing the final covenants for the homeowners, marina, and yacht club. He is also, probably as I write this, at the court house recording the vellums of our development that was approved in January. My how time flies. He’s also preparing to close on our new development financing. Which, by the way, was an amazing challenge in this current banking climate. So, just a thanks to Ben for all his hard work.
Exciting news, tomorrow morning we again meet with Bill from Coastal Design to see our preliminary sketches for the club house. I’ll post a drawing as soon as one is available.
More news: We are going to be exhibiting at the Annapolis sail boat show, October 4-7. Tent L, booth 1. Please come by and see us! Also fyi, to our current clients if you want tickets to the show, contact Thomas in the next week or two and I get complimentary passes for you.
Finally I have another permit Number to share, from the NCDENR Erosion Control Permit # PAMLI-2008-002.

We did manage to sneak away this weekend to Beaufort. I got a slip for Betsy at Beaufort Docks and tried to draw and paint this beautiful classic gaff rigged ketch all weekend.I gave up and just took a photo. Belle is a 1939 Taiwanese built wooden ketch that her present owners have lovingly restored from a previous sinking.  She spends her summers on the hook at Taylor Creek.Sound marine installed some of the docks there a few years ago and we wanted to check them out first hand. See how they have stood the test of storm, tide, and boat abuse. They look pretty good, and ours will age much better without all the boat traffic and extreme tidal changes.
