Updates on Marina, Baltimore Boat Show, cold sailing

Vandemere Creek is framed in morning light on a quick tour before we head to Baltimore.

Lot 41 looks nice after a little sprucing up and has a great view. We’ve also found a nice spot for the dock.

Yes, its been a few weeks since my last update but lots of things have been happening in our little village. So let me just begin. Closings have been moving along smoothly, our little community is growing. Some of you are eager to start your homes and the plans we have seen so far look great. We are working on a list of quality builders from our area to ease this process.Hardy Construction is still moving dozens of trucks a day full of gravel and soil on our roads. They have started digging the two ponds and although it makes a big mess at first in a few months it will look delightful! We’ve been blessed with a good bit of rain which my garden loves, but the dozers don’t care for that much, so there have been those rainy days where Vandemere remains quiet. We’ve done some sprucing up of a few lots, particularly lot 41 which now has a nice view of the creek. Our CAMA consultant is zeroing in on the marina permit but still is fussing with the drawing, making sure every ‘i’ is dotted and ‘t’ is crossed. Although we and many of you are very anxious to see it into the state offices it needs exact to assure a speedy approval. Roger met with our engineers on Thursday, having them make some final improvements and clarifications to the plan. I’ll keep you updated on this process once its submitted, hopefully in a few days. We’ve had some cool weather, but the lettuce and spinach seedlings in the garden have sprouted, showing that spring is not far away. There have been a few days of utterly perfect weather that we’ve been able to go sailing and those that were horribly frigid but that we went anyway. We’ve made trips to Atlanta, where it was bitterly cold and snowing to visit the Marina owners and Builders trade show. We came away with some great ideas on how to make the marina even better. But after two days at home, enough time to pet the dogs and do the laundry we headed off to Baltimore to exhibit in the boat show there. Which is where I am right now, sitting behind the booth and folks walk by and ask about Port Vandemere. The show has picked up today and we’ve met some great people and today has picked up a great deal.Even though I enjoy a little traveling now and then, I’m ready to be home after a few weeks on the road and relax with a book and a home made meal.Traveling really makes you appreciate what a great little place that we call home!

This day it was not 60, not even half that. But when the wind blows its hard to resist a good sail. Our friends John and Emily kept us high and dry in there Catamaran ‘Mango’.

I managed to get a photo of us doing 16.2 knts but we got up to 18 knts at one point. And No! the motor was not running, purely sail and the 40 knts of wind didn’t hurt either.

It was a perfect Sunday, so we took the little boat out for a ride across the Neuse River. We got to enjoy it all day since the motor decided to crap out, after a few hours of tinkering we made it home no worse for the ware. Thankfully it was 60deg…
