I’m not sure about the rest of you the last few weeks for us have been nonstop. Life in a small town like Oriental or Vandemere is usually paced as fast or slow as you want, mostly slow. Yet in December things change. Starting with Sprint of Christmas and ending with the Running of the Dragon on New Years Even. In between those events there is someone having a party, oyster roast, or a pig pickin’ almost every evening. The festivities can be exhausting and I’m glad to be back at work,… so I can rest. Plus the fact I’ve had enough spiced cider, chocolate, cookies and oysters.. well maybe not oysters, for awhile anyway. We’ve had great weather over the holiday week, with highs in the mid 60’s most of the time. I’ve gotten s/v ‘Betsy’ out of her slip several times, including the New Years day fun race which was a lot of fun. Plus we commandeered the ‘TownDock’ in Oriental for the festivities using Betsy as our floating command post for New Years Eve.
Mark and Deborah from lot 18 made it down for the Dragon Run bringing their daughter Crystal and help bang on pots and pans as the dragon made its march through town. Fun was had by all!
The machinery was fast asleep out at the property for the last week as Hardy Construction took a break. But they were hard at work yesterday afternoon as I went to survey our new gravel on Vandemere Creek Drive.
We’ve got a new neighbor, George and Carolynn Chamberlain, are now the proud owners of lot 30. Welcome! Our lot closing are gearing up again this week with 4 more heading to the table by Friday. If you call the office next week you might hear a new voice on the other line. We want to welcome Carol to our team, she’s going to be a great help to us on the administrative side of things.
